Why Does Your Windshield Fog Up More Often on Cool Fall Mornings and How to Prevent It?

Cool fall mornings create the perfect conditions for windshield fog. The glass gets cold overnight, the air inside the car holds moisture, and once you get in and start breathing warm air into the cabin, that moisture begins collecting on the colder windshield. A little fog is normal, but a windshield that takes too long to clear can become a real visibility problem. At our shop, we look at airflow, heater performance, air conditioning operation, cabin moisture, and the condition of the cabin air filter when a vehicle struggles to clear the glass. Cold Glass and Warm Moist Air Create Condensation Windshield fog is simply condensation. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air, so when warm, humid cabin air touches cold glass, some of that moisture turns into tiny water droplets.
